Frequently Asked Questions:
What software will be used to build my website?
Your new website will be built using WordPress (the world’s leading content management system) as the framework.
The website pages will be built and styled using Divi, one of the leading and highly regarded WordPress page building systems, packed full of great features.
WordPress plugins will be used as and when required.
Does it matter where I am located?
Not at all. In this day and age of video calls location just isn’t an issue. I have Clients UK wide and even one in the South of France!
Also, there may be occasions when it would be useful to both you and me (when I’m delivering you training for example) that I remote in to your computer, so we are both working on the same screen. I have secure software to enable that.
So no, it doesn’t matter where you are located, the quality of the service I provide you will not be affected whatsoever.
How much will my new website cost?
The price will be agreed before any work starts. I quote a fixed price based on how long I estimate it will take me to build the site based on an agreed specification of the number of pages, and the content & functionality within each page.
My time estimate will be based on past experience. The price will be calculated at estimated no. of man hours x my hourly rate.
Every website is different, so for example, a 5 page site for Client “A” may take longer to build than a 5 page website for Client “B”. It all depends on the content and functionality.
As a very broadpark guide, most websites I have built to date over the past 12 years, have come in at between £750+VAT and £1800+VAT. Some cheaper, some dearer. My minimum charge is £450+VAT.
When are the payment points?
There are 3 payment points. I take this approach to protect both you and me.
- The first 25% when I have completed building the site menu structure and the Home Page and you are happy with what I have produced to date.
- The second 25% when I have completed two thirds of the number of pages and you are happy with what has been produced to date.
- The remaining 50% when I have completed building the site and we both agree it is ready to put “live”.
This approach protects me from time-wasters and limits your liability should unforeseen circimstances occur.
Will the price change while the site is being built?
It would take an exceptional change in your requirement for me to inform you that the quoted price has changed. I would only do this if you significantly change the scope of the project mid-stream e.g. by requesting more pages or significant new functionality over and above that originally agreed.
How do the maintenance charges work?
The norm is that I charge maintenace on a pay-as-you-go hourly rate basis. Most of my Clients prefer that approach rather than a fixed price monthly maintenance contract, as in the long term it proves to be the least cost option.
It’s your choice.
Will I own my domain and the new website?
Yes. if I buy the domain on your behalf, it will be registered in your name, not mine, so you will own it. The website I build for you will become your property on payment of the final invoice.
Can you provide email as well?
Yes. As well as being a Web Designer, I’m also a Microsoft Partner, specialising in Microsoft 365. So, I can provide you with domain based email accounts, provisioned through Microsoft 365. I will set and activate as many email accounts as you require.
Also, as an authorised Microsoft 365 licence reseller, I can supply you with and provision the licences. I’ll even help you set up access to the email accounts at your end.
Will I be able to make simple changes to the website?
Absolutely yes! Because of the toolsets your website will have been built in, it will be easy for you to make simple changes with no need for any coding skills whatsoever.
I will provide you with login credentials to the backend of the site and show you how to do things such as adding / changing images & text, making blog posts (if applicable) or adding products (if the site is e-commerce) at no extra cost.
I would recommend, however, that I make major changes (such as building new pages or extra sections within existing pages) as a pay-as-you-go maintenance activity.
Can the website be extended as time passes by?
Yes. The website can be grown and extended over and above the initial build. This is particulaly useful as and when your business changes or grows
